Answer Dr. Ali Goma Mohammed
The fast of Ramadan is obligatory The fast of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. Allah commands Muslims to observe it and says:
'So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it '[Al-Baqarah, 185].
The messenger of Allah [pbuh] said: "Islam was built upon five pillars: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Mohammed is the messenger of Allah, performing prayers, paying zakat, making pilgrimage [for the capable] and fasting in Ramadan" [Bukhari and Muslim].
Allah is most merciful Allah facilitated matters upon Muslim concerning Divine legislations. He says:
'Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship '[Al-Baqarah, 185].
The Almighty likewise made dispensations for those who have an excuse and cannot fast. He says:
'Whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days' [Al-Baqarah, 185].
Fasting and illness
An ill person is exempted from the obligation to fast until he recovers when he must make up any missed fast days. A person with a chronic illness must feed a poor person two meals for each missed fast day. Allah says:
'And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] – a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day] '[Al-Baqarah, 184].
Anything that enters an internal cavity through a natural orifice such as the mouth, nose and ears breaks the fast. Inhalers used for asthma patients dispense droplets into an inner cavity and therefore invalidate the fast.
The ruling Asthma inhalers invalidate fasting.
